URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Stop the U.S. from funding a polluting gas project in Papua New Guinea! Act now!
The South Pacific Island nation of Papua New Guinea is home to stunning coasts and awe-inspiring coral reefs. These are habitats teeming with life: scuttling lobsters, soaring stingrays, and clownfish like our friend Nemo. But marine heat waves driven by fossil fuels are killing these precious ecosystems.
Climate change is hitting Papua New Guinea hard. Sea levels are rising faster than the global average, threatening its low-lying islands. 40% of Papua New Guinea’s population lives below the poverty line, and many communities have already had to move their homes several times due to rising sea levels.
The U.S. Export-Import Bank is planning to support a liquefied natural gas project in Papua New Guinea that will create TOXIC POLLUTION and ACCELERATE THE WARMING that’s killing marine animals and hurting communities. Please, Friend, tell the U.S. Export-Import Bank to reject this CLIMATE BOMB gas project in Papua New Guinea before it moves forward. Time is running out! >>
According to UN researchers, we need to immediately end all liquefied natural gas investments to avoid catastrophic global warming. That means not supporting projects like this one in Papua New Guinea. The U.S. previously pledged not to support new projects like this – but it’s poised to violate its own commitment.
This gas project might line the pockets of fossil fuel executives, but it will be a tragedy for the people of Papua New Guinea, marine wildlife, and the entire planet. The question is: which side should the U.S. be on? Supporting fossil fuel companies and planetary destruction, or standing with communities and the Earth? Help ensure the right choice is made. Sign the petition and help STOP the U.S. from funding a catastrophic natural gas development in Papua New Guinea. We need 3,290 more signatures by midnight to hit our goal!
