Congress can raise an army. The President can command it. Hard power is woven into those two branches of government.

But the power of the Supreme Court comes from a quieter but incredibly important place: the faith of the American people in our laws and our judicial system.

The current right-wing majority of the Supreme Court is abusing their power by abusing the trust Americans have placed in them to uphold the law. Last week, I reintroduced the Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization (TERM) Act, to limit the terms of justices to 18 years.

The Federalist Society, which built the 6 to 3 extremist supermajority on today’s Supreme Court, is part of the dark money Koch Brothers special interest network. My term limit legislation would clean out the corruption on the current Supreme Court while preventing lifetime tenured corruption from ever again settling in on a future Court.

Congress must pass the TERM Act now! John, most of the current Supreme Court justices are relatively young. We could be looking at several decades of a bought and paid for hard-right Supreme Court before we even have the CHANCE to change its makeup.

We need Supreme Court term limits now, and I wrote the bill to do it.
