AVAC’s Advocacy Fellows Program, currently accepting applications through October 2 for the 2024 program, has launched a generation of leaders in HIV prevention and global health equity. Recently, we looked back on the program and the accomplishments of the alumni Fellows over 14 years of the program. Founded in 2009, the Advocacy Fellows program offers technical and financial support to individuals— especially in African countries where HIV incidence is high— who have an interest in improving the HIV response in their communities. The program pairs individuals with a community-based host organization where they pursue an 18-month advocacy project. Both the individual fellow and the host organization develop expertise and advocacy skills, gain access to influential stakeholders and networks, receive intensive mentoring during the program, and are connected to the alumni network and AVAC resources for years to come.
