Dear Reader,

We know that readers want to have a sense of what’s happening at Pittsburgh Public Schools. From students, family members, and district employees to taxpayers and future employers of PPS graduates, we all have a stake in public education. Employee data can tell us a lot, and the good news is, there’s definitely data available. The challenge is, with over 4,000 PPS employees, analyzing their places of residence, salaries, years of experience, racial demographics and more can be truly overwhelming.

In this video, PublicSource K-12 education reporter Lajja Mistry describes how she uses technology to share the insights she gained after combing through thousands of data points. The maps, charts and graphs she creates help bring important takeaways into focus. Now, you can, in just a few seconds, grasp findings that took many hours of analysis and stay informed without having to slog through the spreadsheets yourself.

While the technologies our team uses are impactful, they are also expensive. We count on gifts from readers like you to make sure we can support our team’s tech needs. Please make a one-time or recurring donation to our nonprofit newsroom and support our ability to keep doing this work.
