Yesterday, a federal judge in Western Washington ruled that President Trump cannot take $89 million from a military construction project at Naval Base Kitsap to fund his unconstitutional border wall.
When Congress told Trump he couldn’t raid military construction budgets to fund his border wall, he did it anyway. When I learned that Trump’s unlawful decision would harm Washington state’s economy and our service members, I took the President to court.
We won. The judge declared President Trump’s decision illegal and permanently blocked him from reallocating $89 million away from Washington state.
Our latest legal victory against the President ensures that the $89 million will be spent the way Congress intended -- and not on the border wall.
This is a victory for our values, the rule of law, the checks and balances our Founders enshrined in the Constitution, and for Naval Base Kitsap, which needs the funding.
This is a big day -- but there’s no time to rest. My team is back in federal court today fighting the President on a different matter.
Stay tuned -
