TakeAction Minnesota Weekly Wrap

Dear John,

We’re days away from Super Tuesday. No matter what happens on March 3, we’re one step closer to electing a new President and coming together to change what’s possible in our country.

We’re headed into GOTV weekend energized by the multiracial, multigenerational, movement mobilizing behind Bernie Sanders, and the wisdom of TakeAction members—read what they’re saying about him here. Have a great weekend.

Here’s what we’re reading, watching, and listening to this week:

1. Busy Voter's Guide

Ok, ok, it’s not a news story but in case you need it, checkout TakeAction’s Busy Voter’s Guide to the Primary Election. Get ready to vote this Tuesday, March 3 or sooner. Check it out here.

2. Insulin

Life and health should not be for sale. Thanks to the tireless advocacy of Nicole Smith-Holt and the diabetic community, the Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act passed the Minnesota House this week. We’re celebrating this victory, but it is only the beginning. Read this story about the fight for insulin and #MedicareforAll.

3. Primary Challengers

This Tuesday, an anti-abortion incumbent in a South Texas House race with an A rating from the NRA is fighting off a challenge from Jessica Cisneros, a millennial endorsed by AOC and Bernie, whose campaign is centering the experiences of poor and working people. Catch up on Jessica Cisneros’ race for Congress in South Texas.

4. Organizer-in-Chief

Barack Obama won in 2008 as an organizer, harnessing the power of thousands of Americans fighting for change. Bernie Sander’s campaign is doing the same things. Check out this piece exploring the difficulties (and opportunities) of co-governing as a movement candidate.

5. Every Billionare is a Policy Failure

Jeff Bezos is worth $64 billion dollars. That amount of money is absolutely mind boggling. Check out this video that shows just how rich he actually is.

6. Multiracial Movement

An important piece from Justice Dem operative Waleed Shahid about the people’s movement -- and momentum -- behind Bernie Sanders and the analysis pundits are missing. Check it out here.

7. Paid Sick Days

Coronavirus is on the mind—so then, is the unquestionable need for workers to have paid sick days. Read this piece in the Atlantic.

8. #MeToo

Harvey Weinstein was convicted on Monday of rape and sexual assault. Even though the details of his crimes were widely known, something about the verdict still felt surprising because powerful men are so rarely held accountable. Read more.

9. Viral Video

A video of a javelina running on the side of the road in Tucson went viral this week. It’s even better when it’s set to music. Check it out here. (We’re particularly partial to Fast Car and Holding Out for a Hero.)

10. eNerGY

Loving this viral video capturing the energy at a Bernie rally at a college in Winston-Salem, NC. Watch it here.

That’s a wrap. Enjoy the sun this weekend!
