Jack, I know we ask you to donate to Daily Kos often, but where does that donation actually go:
By far, Daily Kos' largest expense is our payroll for our staff of writers, editors, campaign organizers, and administrative support. The next big expense is our site hosting and technology development. There are other expenses, like legal (we are being sued by anti-vaxxer and Nazi-cavortor Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.), rent for office space in Oakland, CA, and supplies, but for the most part, Daily Kos is pretty simple: We produce news you can do something about—this involves people and a functioning website.
What's pretty amazing is that our average donation is just $6.75. This is important to us. It means we aren't beholden to some billionaire or corporate sponsor that could influence our work with their own agenda. It means we are accountable to you, Jack, and the tens of thousands of other Daily Kos readers and activists who donate what they can to power our work and keep our content free for everyone.
If we miss our revenue goals, we can't produce the quality of work you have come to expect from us. We need to raise $124,582 by the end of the month. Can you support Daily Kos with a donation of $5 or more?
DONATE
Thank you for all you do,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
