John — I remember my first days of basic training as a cadet at the Air Force Academy. A memorable moment was firearms training with an M-16 - the military version of the AR-15. I understood that it was my responsibility to use the weapon wisely. At the end of the day, we put our weapons in secure storage - not our dorm room. Now, as a trauma surgeon, I’ve seen the human toll of firearms far too often.
Last week, we released our first campaign video and it shows why we need bold leadership on gun violence prevention. If you haven’t had the chance to watch it, I hope you’ll take some time now.
For me, it is no longer enough to save lives one at a time in my operating room. The system is broken — the system that allows these weapons of war on the street, that deprives citizens of their political power and basic sense of safety.
That’s why I’m running for Congress. There’s never been a trauma surgeon and there has never even been a Black doctor able to vote in Congress. The system has never seen someone like me. Someone ready to fight when needed and to heal when it’s time.
Please take a minute to watch our ad and make a contribution to our campaign. Soon, you will begin hearing about our end of quarter deadline, and now you know why it’s so urgent. I am asking because I’m ready for change, and I simply can’t do this without your help. Thank you. Here is a link: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/bw-fr-eoq-2309
Onward,
Dr. Brian Williams
