Friend — Tailpipe emissions from cars, SUVs, and passenger trucks contribute to health-harming pollution that cuts short tens of thousands of lives each year and leaves even more people with respiratory diseases like asthma.
That’s why it’s so important that the Department of Transportation adopt the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s proposed new standards to improve fuel economy for cars sold in the U.S. Improved standards are necessary to protect those most impacted by transportation pollution, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and saving drivers money at the pump.
Take action right now to help us deliver 5,000 signatures from LCV members. It only takes a minute to add your name and tell the Department of Transportation to adopt stronger fuel efficiency standards and transition us to a cleaner transportation future.
Over the past five decades, adopting fuel economy standards has been one of the most significant actions the United States has taken to reduce its reliance on oil and save families money on gas. By adopting stronger standards, the Department of Transportation has the opportunity to take critical action that will curb emissions, bring us closer to our climate goals, and protect families’ health.
Tailpipe pollution harms everyone, especially communities living near highways, ports, freight hubs, and anywhere with lots of traffic. Low-wealth communities and communities of color are often hit hardest. Stronger fuel economy standards would deliver on the Biden administration’s stated commitment to environmental justice by helping to address these inequities.
Friend, we’re expecting the fossil fuel industry to lobby the Biden-Harris administration hard to try to defeat stronger fuel efficiency standards and protect their profits at the pump. We cannot let that happen without a fight — we need everyone in our movement to take action.
Please, take a moment to add your name. Tell the Department of Transportation to adopt the strongest possible fuel efficiency standards. You will bring us one step closer to our 5,000 signature goal while helping protect healthy communities, save consumers money, and save our planet.
Thank you for taking action to keep us all safe.
Onward,
