The Republicans are acting with contempt of the American people as they take our country to the brink of a government shutdown.
Let me be clear: this is a crisis manufactured by extreme Republicans. And the consequences of a shutdown will be real and serious for millions of Americans.

Kevin McCarthy and the Republicans continue to demonstrate their contempt for the people, and we cannot allow them to continue playing cruel political games at the expense of our most vulnerable workers and families. Every year, Congress needs to pass a budget to keep the government running. Yet these folks see it as their opportunity to present the American public with a false choice: make harmful concessions on life-saving government programs, or shut down the government.
A Republican shutdown isn’t some minor hiccup — it would directly affect the most vulnerable among us: seniors who depend on timely Social Security payments, federal workers whose paychecks will just stop showing up, and communities reeling from natural disasters.
If Republicans shut down the government, they hurt millions of people — plain and simple. And that’s what they want.
That cruelty and chaos are core to their political strategy. It’s time the Speaker of the House stopped letting these extreme voices call the shots.
