John,
The federal government is being held hostage by a handful of extremists in Congress who are hurtling us toward a shutdown over their outrageous demands.
Just this week, House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington released a budget that cuts more than $4 trillion over 10 years from the services that regular Americans rely on.[1] And, while Republicans claim these cuts are in the name of “fiscal responsibility,” they’re simultaneously moving ahead in that same budget to extend expiring parts of the 2017 Trump Tax Scam, which the Congressional Budget Office calculates will cost $3.5 trillion if the whole law is made permanent.[2]
House Republicans’ game plan is clear: cuts to critical services for working people to pay for more tax cuts for their wealthy and corporate donors.
Take action now. Write to your representative and demand they stand up to extremists and avert a government shutdown.
While Chairman Arrington’s budget is slim on specifics, what we can glean from it is that healthcare will be stripped away from millions of people; hunger, poverty, and homelessness will rise; and wealthy tax cheats will be given free reign to dodge billions of dollars in taxes owed each year.
Economic and racial inequities will widen as the wealthy continue to accelerate away from the rest of us.
We’re demanding Congress invest in our communities, not their wealthy donors. Click here to write to your representative right now and demand they stand up to extremists and avert a government shutdown.
