Dear John,
We are over two weeks into the school year - and, as a former teacher and mom of school age kids- I want to take time today to be grateful for our teachers who, while making less than their peers, and carrying thousands of dollars in student loan debt, continue to mold futures and shape our communities.
Vilified and politicized, our teachers continue to show up.
No, our Michigan public school teachers are not trying to "sexualize" our students, or brainwash them into some weird conspiracy agenda.
Our Michigan teachers are teaching our kids math, science, history, literature, and band. They are teaching our kids critical thinking, compassion, and understanding. And, they are teaching them that we, as an American society, are great- not despite our differences- but because of them.
It’s time to ban Bergman, not books. Let’s make progress on the issues that matter; chip in $20 and help me restore common sense in Congress.
