Hi,
In Wisconsin, a major fight over redrawn maps could give Republicans the
upper hand in a critical state for years to come. GOP elected officials
across the country are engaging in gerrymandering to silence certain
voters, especially in minority communities, and give Republicans unfair,
undemocratic advantages in elections.
Redistricting, a democratic process made to account for changes in
population every ten years, has been hijacked by state-level GOP elected
officials around the country, who have turned it into a weapon against
democracy and the people's right to pick their leaders.

The effects of GOP redistricting on the country are extremely beneficial
to Republican elected officials and extremely detrimental to the people.
One example is in Wisconsin, where in 2011, a GOP-majority in the
legislature used their redistricting powers to draw aggressive
gerrymanders into the legislative maps.
Since then, Republicans have controlled the legislature after every
election and have made it practically impossible for Democrats to gain
control.^1 And now, the current fight in Wisconsin is spurring a
“constitutional crisis.”^2
The impacts of this gerrymander are even worse — it’s silencing votes
across the state. Since Democratic voters are geographically concentrated
in urban areas, the maps created in 2011 ensure Democratic voting power is
confined to a smaller number of districts.^3 This isn’t exclusive to
Wisconsin; Republicans across many states have taken advantage of the
redistricting process and increased their power in Congress more and more.
We cannot continue to allow the GOP to silence democratic votes and
guarantee Republican victories every election.
