John,
Growing up, this little girl learned that through hard work, she could break barriers and achieve anything she set her mind to.
So, after enlisting in the military, she learned to fly a helicopter and became one of the first handful of women to fly combat missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2004, her Blackhawk helicopter was shot down over Iraq, costing her both legs and partial use of her right arm. She spent a long, painful year at Walter Reed, undergoing surgeries and intensive physical therapy to relearn how to walk on her new prosthetic legs.
But Tammy is as tough as they come, so she turned these experiences into an opportunity to become a champion for Veterans. She ran for Congress and eventually won a seat in the U.S. Senate, where she is still breaking barriers.
In 2018, she became the first Senator to give birth while serving in office and the first to bring an infant onto the Senate floor, so she could care for her child and do her job serving the people of Illinois at the same time.
Tammy has overcome so many obstacles, and continues to be a fierce advocate for our troops, Veterans and military families in Washington.
But in just one short week — at 11:59pm on September 30, to be exact — Tammy is facing an official FEC fundraising deadline. And she needs your help to hit our goals and keep up her work. So please:
