Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Migrant Tax, Another Radical Proposal from Albany Democrats While New Yorkers are struggling to pay for gas and groceries, and after Democrats spent $1 billion relocating migrants in NY, now they want to pass a "Migrant Tax" to bankroll their failed policies. This comes on top of NYC's plan to slash city agencies by up to 15%. Enough is enough! Mayor Adams has stated that this influx of migrants, nearly 10,000 a month, will destroy NYC, and I agree with him! But to me, this is no surprise: when you do not follow our national laws and allow for open-door, sanctuary city policies to run your town, this is what happens! I will continue to stand firmly in opposition to forcing NY-24 families to bankroll Hochul and Adam's failed policies. I refused to have my hardworking constituents bear this burden. READ MORE: Socialists Eye New Taxes to Pay For Migrants Revealing the Truth Behind SBTi This week, I revealed the deep corruption surrounding the Biden administration’s proposed rule requiring companies to contract with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), a subsidiary of left-wing dark money groups, at today’s Science, Space, and Technology Oversight Subcommittee Hearing. You may be interested to know that the largest owner of SBTi, a UK-based organization formed in June 2023, is the We Mean Business Coalition. The We Mean Business Coalition is a project of the New Venture Fund, which is owned and managed by Arabella Advisors, a philanthropic consulting firm known for its association with left-leaning donors like George Soros, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Michael Bloomberg, and the American Federation of Teachers. By forcing companies to contract with SBTi, the subsidiary of this left-wing dark money web, the Biden administration is de facto forcing companies to contribute to this dark money network to support the radical left’s agenda. The Biden administration has proposed forcing companies to use SBTi, as opposed to any other climate group, to support their left-wing dark money laundering scheme. It should come as no surprise that the beneficiaries of this corruption are Democrat mega-donors, using their wealth to bankroll policies that work to support expanding the Supreme Court, partisan gerrymandering, defunding our military, abortion on demand, and more. I remain committed to getting to the bottom of this network of corruption and preventing this dark money chain from funding left-wing priorities. The American people deserve to know the truth about this corruption. This week, I urged Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimundo at the House Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Technology to designate Western New York as a Tech Hub to boost innovation, support our local economy, and create opportunities for our businesses to thrive. Earlier this fall, I was honored to join a bipartisan group of New York legislators in submitting this NY SMART I-Corridor application, which will offer a promising future for the Buffalo-Rochester-Syracuse region. Once home of the Industrial Revolution, with this federal investment, I am eager to see how our community can continue to be a source of technological innovation and advancement. READ MORE: NY Reps Support Tech Hub Designation Transparency in Congress and a well-informed electorate are vital to preserving our self-governing Constitutional Republic. Constituents deserve to know how their members of Congress vote, which is why I have explained the votes I have cast in Congress since I was first elected. Those I represent will always know where I stand, and I will continue to prioritize transparency, accessibility, and integrity in everything I do on behalf of New York’s 24th Congressional District. To read more about my votes and see the full list with explanations of all the legislation considered this week by the House, please click here. I voted “Yes” on H.R. 1530, the Veterans Benefits Improvement Act of 2023. H.R. 1530 would make reforms to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability benefits claims process for injured and sick veterans. First, it would require the VA to publish disability benefit questionnaire forms online, allowing non-VA doctors to access these forms for their patients. Second, it would provide additional transparency on VA efforts to reimburse veterans for disability exam-related travel. Last, the bill would increase the maximum number of judges at the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims from seven to nine so all claims can be heard quickly. These veterans served our nation with valor, and it is vital Congress ensures the services they earned are working effectively. H.R. 1530 passed the House by a unanimous vote of 423-0. I voted “Yes” on S. 112, a bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to strengthen benefits for children of Vietnam veterans born with spina bifida, and for other purposes. Spina bifida is a serious birth defect in which a baby’s spinal cord fails to properly develop. Since 1996, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been required by law to provide benefits to children with spina bifida if their parents were potentially exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam, Korea, or Thailand during the Vietnam or Korean War. However, the VA has not carried out this requirement, preventing affected children from receiving benefits. To address this, S. 112 would require the VA to establish an advisory council to solicit feedback from affected children and their parents, ensuring that those who need assistance are able to receive it. This legislation passed the House by a unanimous vote of 422-0. I voted “Yes” on H.R. 3981, the Isakson-Roe Education Oversight Expansion Act. Through their service to the United States, our nation’s veterans have more than earned their GI benefits for college, graduate school, and various training programs. However, there have been certain education programs that have been deceiving veterans into signing up for fraudulent, falsified, or substandard programs. In response, H.R. 3981 would require educational institutions to notify state approving agencies if the institution becomes subject to punitive government actions. This would protect veterans from deception and fraud by ensuring GI benefits are only used for education programs in good standing. This bill passed the House by a unanimous vote of 410-0. I voted “Yes” on S. 475, A bill to designate the clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Gallup, New Mexico, as the Hiroshi "Hershey" Miyamura VA Clinic. Hiroshi Miyamura was born in Gallup, New Mexico and served in the United States Army during the Korean War, receiving a Medal of Honor for saving fellow servicemembers when their position came under attack by Communist Chinese soldiers. Miyamura was taken prisoner and held captive until his release 28 months later. After the war, he returned to his wife in New Mexico, where he ran a small business and advocated for fellow veterans until his death at the age of 97. This bill passed the House by a vote of 409-0, with one member voting present. I voted “Yes” on H.R. 663, the Native American Child Protection Act. H.R. 663 would modify existing tribal grant programs under the Indian Child Protection and Violence Act to more effectively fight child abuse among tribes. Specifically, it would expand the definition of child abuse under the law to include sexual violence and exploitation. In addition, it would establish a new National Indian Child Resource and Family Services Center to replace current regional centers and carry out preventative and treatment services. It is vital that we ensure all children have an environment where they can live and grow, safe from any form of abuse. This bill passed the House by a vote of 378-32. Announcing $3 Million Grant for Griffiss Institute, Inc. I recently announced that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) awarded a substantial grant of nearly $3 million to the Griffiss Institute Inc. for the Smart-X Internet of Things (IoT) Living Lab project. The IoT Living Lab project allows vendors and developers to integrate, test, experiment, and demonstrate their innovative technology capabilities. I made this project request for federal funding through the FY23 Community Project Funding process last Congress. Many constituents from my current district, NY-24, work for the primary beneficiaries of these funds, the US Air Force’s Rome Laboratory and its surrounding high-tech ecosystem. This grant is a win for Upstate and Central New York, bolstering our region’s high-tech innovation and manufacturing economy. This marks a significant milestone for our community and the countless companies that serve the technology needs of the Air Force and the broader Department of Defense. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this grant will have on our region!
