John,
It’s been a terrible week for climate leadership.
On the same day the head of the UN urged world leaders in New York to speed up climate action, Rishi Sunak organised a Downing Street press conference to set out plans to slow it down.
His speech was met with widespread criticism in the international community. But not the Labour leadership, who will not commit to restoring climate targets, ditched by the Prime Minister for short term political gain.
It is clear, now more than ever, that we need to get Green MPs elected to make the case for bold and ambitious climate action.
So what does this look like?
✅ Abolishing billions of pounds worth of subsidies given to the fossil fuel industry
✅ Introducing a carbon tax to make polluters pay and wealth tax to fund a just transition to net zero
✅ Investing money necessary to insulate our leaky homes and build a cheap and reliable public transport system
This is what is needed to reduce carbon emissions, cut soaring fuel bills, and seize the opportunity to build a fairer greener country.
More, not less action, to tackle the climate and nature crises.
But first we must get more Green MPs with the courage and conviction to show climate leadership elected to Parliament.
