After three years, Muslims for Progressive Values will be holding our 2023 National Conference at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, on September 30 from 9 AM - 5 PM.
The event is open to the public and the objective for this conference is to formulate collective strategies and actions, uniting our progressive voices effectively in the pursuit of promoting and upholding human rights values on many issues playing out in the United States. Issues such as the Christian and Muslim Right's demand to opt out of public school inclusive curriculums, the many court cases and legislations curtailing the rights of LGBTQIA+ folks, and the influence of religion in American politics are just some of the topics we'll be touching on during our day long conference.
Now, more than over, this discussion is crucial as it has been revealed to us that Family Watch International (yes, the same ones who have pushed the Christian Right agenda in the U.S., the U.N. and in Uganda and its neighbors) and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are now partners, and they intend to utilize this partnership to promote so-called "family values" at the national level. We need to brace ourselves for more from the Muslim Right movement to opt out of inclusive curriculums for their children.
