Student loan payments resume: AFT debt clinics can help
After a three-year hiatus that began during the pandemic, student loan payments are set to resume October 1. To help ease the transition, the U.S. Department of Education has made some changes, including much more generous parameters for income-driven repayment. The AFT is here to help you sort through it all and find the best path to debt relief, with weekly student debt clinics. There are over 30 virtual clinics offered in the remainder of September and October at various days and times throughout the weeks. Register here.
CFT Back to School tour continues at Palomar College
This week CFT officers got a chance to check in with members of the Palomar College Council of Classified Employees, AFT local 4522, and the Palomar Faculty Federation, AFT local 6161, as the 2023 CFT Back to School tour continued. Together they took part in a union forum on the Palomar College campus, discussing local issues and statewide campaigns.
AFT highlights the great work being done by the El Rancho Federation of Teachers

The union recently hosted a community-wide book fair and a citizenship information session, which broke down barriers to naturalization with free legal advice.
“I love doing this because kids are really talking to their parents; families are really connecting,” said ERFT President Lilia Carreon of the book fair. “I’ve seen the impact of having books—it’s the talking and the excitement, it’s the parents and students and board members that show up to volunteer.
