As House Republicans prepare to impeach President Biden and shut down the government, you may have missed that Donald Trump is officially back on the campaign trail following his fourth criminal indictment.

Why it matters: Trump’s rhetoric is more dangerous than ever. If elected, he’s promising to direct his Attorney General to investigate his political opponents if he’s elected. And he’s even echoing the language of the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection -- encouraging supporters to “fight like hell” or “lose their country.”

Between the lines: we’re still over a year out from the election and if Trump’s rhetoric is already more unhinged than ever, we can expect him to flood the zone with conspiracy theories and lies about our democracy.

What they’re saying: the vast majority of Republicans continue to fall in line with Trump - and he’s picking up new endorsements nearly every day.

The big picture: the GOP is showing no signs of backing down from the MAGA, election-denying agenda. Which is why we’re going to need strong Democratic Secretaries of State who will defend democracy against these attacks.
