Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions AG Merrick Garland
Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland testified under oath before the House Judiciary Committee this week.
During my questioning with AG Garland, it became obvious that he isn't serious about doing his job. Under the "so-called" leadership of President Biden and AG Garland, they have created a two-tier justice system—one for the Biden Crime Family and one for the rest of America.
In 2014, Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, joined the board of Burisma, a corrupt Ukrainian energy company, despite having no experience in oil and gas. According to a document from 2020, a confidential human source (CHS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that Burisma “needed to keep Hunter on the board so that everything would be okay.” According to the CHS, Burisma hired Hunter Biden “to protect them through his dad,” then-Vice President, Joe Biden.
At the hearing, I questioned AG Garland about Joe Biden blocking a $1 billion loan to Ukraine unless the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, Viktor Shokin, investigating Burisma and Hunter Biden was fired. When I asked AG Garland who Viktor Shokin was, he replied that he did not know. Despite Interagency Policy Committee (IPC) determining Prosecutor Shokin had been making significant reforms to combat corruption in Ukraine during his time as Prosecutor General in 2015, he was fired, and Ukraine received the $1 billion loan.
What Joe Biden did as Vice President is quid pro quo, and AG Garland doesn’t seem interested in doing anything about it. He should be impeached, along with Joe Biden.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls, Chairman Mark Green, and Senator Marco Rubio Introduce the No Asylum for CCP Spies Act
Chinese nationals are crossing our borders at alarming rates. So far in Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has already encountered nearly 40,000 Chinese nationals along either the U.S. northern or southern border, with over 6,000 encounters of Chinese nationals just in the month of July. To ensure that members of “communist or totalitarian parties” aren’t being granted asylum in the United States, I introduced the bicameral No Asylum for CCP Spies Act with Chairman Mark Green of the Homeland Security Committee and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.
Under this legislation, members of communist or totalitarian parties would be prohibited from being granted asylum in the United States unless they meet several high-bar exceptions, including publicly renouncing their membership through an approved government service, denouncing the party during the asylum adjudication process, proving that their membership was involuntary, and being deemed by the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security as not being a danger to the security of the United States. This legislation would allow members of communist and totalitarian parties to be granted asylum if they have significant information regarding national security.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is our nation’s greatest foreign adversary. The Biden Administration’s complete and utter failure to secure our borders has led to an influx of migrants being encountered at both our northern and southern borders, with record numbers of Chinese nationals claiming asylum. If these individuals claiming asylum in the United States are members of the CCP, they are not in fear of returning to Communist China. They are here to infiltrate our society, steal our intellectual property, gain our country’s secrets, and report back to Xi Jinping. I am proud to introduce this legislation to keep Communist Chinese spies out of our country.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg
This week, Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was signed into law by President Biden on November 15, 2021, and allocated $66 billion for our nation’s rail—most of which is at the discretion of the Department of Transportation (DOT). The California High-Speed Rail Project started 15 years ago and was supposed to be the next big thing in transportation in America. Although I support high-speed rail, I do not support this project. The California High-Speed Rail Project is riddled with billions in cost overruns and mismanagement.
During the hearing, I outlined the problems of the project and questioned Secretary Buttigieg about his knowledge of the ongoing project, along with the inefficiency of the project. Billions of taxpayer dollars have been spent on this project and they are requesting billions more. This cannot happen. We cannot be throwing good money after bad. Secretary Buttigieg has not visited the project, so I invited him to visit the project with me to conduct a full audit on the project before any more taxpayer dollars are given to it.
I also asked about the Secretary’s stance on the pilot shortage that plagues our nation and raising the retirement age of commercial airline pilots from 65 to 67. If we have a president who is 80, why are commercial airline pilots being forced to retire at the arbitrary age of 65? Let’s raise the retirement age of pilots and keep experienced pilots in the air.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with Texans for Strong Borders
As soon as President Biden took office, he reversed every action President Trump took to secure our border, resulting in the worst border crisis in history. Over 7 million illegal aliens have crossed our border, and the Biden Administration refuses to do anything to stop it. We have to secure our border and put Americans first!
Thank you for coming by my office!

Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open
My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations.
One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies.
Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees.
The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at (346) 762-6600.
