Friend,

It’s no secret: Washington is broken. We need to root out corruption, end the chaos and dysfunction, put a check on lazy, unelected bureaucrats, and drain the swamp.

This week, I unveiled my Make Washington Work Again package, legislation comprised of several bills to hold the government accountable, shrink the administrative state, and restore integrity to public service. Senator Joni Ernst led companion legislation in the Senate, and I am proud to work alongside her to make Washington more accountable to Iowans.

My Make Washington Work Again package includes:

  • SWAMP Act: Moves federal agency headquarters outside of Washington, DC, bringing them closer to the people whose lives are most impacted by agency decision-making.
  • SCRUB Act: Forces a review of federal regulations that drag down our economy and burden family farms, businesses, and workers. This bill establishes a Retrospective Regulatory Review Commission with the sole purpose of finding and eliminating regulations that drag down our economy, and then working with Congress to repeal them.
  • The PURE Executive Act: Imposes a five-year ban on senior administration employees from lobbying a federal agency where they were employed. It also bans senior administration officials from lobbying on behalf of a foreign agent for life.
  • The SHOW UP Act: Ends Washington's extended "Work From Home" policy for bureaucrats and requires agencies to return to pre-pandemic telework levels. Bureaucrats shouldn't be able to work from home when everyone else is showing up for work!

We have to clean this place up, remind bureaucrats who pays their salary and who they serve, and ensure Washington works for the people, not the other way around. I will do everything I can to end the chaos and dysfunction in DC, ensure taxpayers are respected, and make Washington work more like Iowa.

Read on for more about my work for Iowans this week!

Best,

National Stillbirth Prevention Day

Stillbirths – the tragic and unexpected loss of a baby after 20 weeks of pregnancy – are far too common. I’ve sat with countless mothers and families as they shared their heartbreaking stories of stillbirth. We can and must do better to address this silent crisis and save lives.

That’s why I introduced bipartisan legislation to designate September 19th as National Stillbirth Prevention Day. This legislation will help raise awareness and bring recognition to federal resources that expand access to evidence-based care, research, and education to prevent stillbirth.

I won’t stop fighting until we end the tragedy of stillbirth, save babies, and support moms.

Cedar Rapids Receives $6 Million for Derecho Recovery

Last week, we got good news that the City of Cedar Rapids received a $6 million investment for the ReLeaf Cedar Rapids program. I was proud to successfully advocate for this investment in the ReLeaf Cedar Rapids initiative – an outstanding public-private partnership between the city and Trees Forever.

Trees Forever has done amazing work to rebuild our tree canopy post-derecho and grow a healthier urban forest following the Derecho. The investment will allow this vital work to continue, and I will keep fighting to bring every possible disaster relief and resiliency dollar home to Iowa.

Livestock Marketing Association

I enjoyed meeting with the Livestock Marketing Association to hear more about how they’re working to strengthen our food supply chain and create new opportunities for American farmers and ranchers. Thank you for your advocacy on behalf of Iowa livestock producers!

Iowa Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias

The Iowa Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias does incredible work to empower and support those with ectodermal dysplasias through education, support, and research. I’ll continue working to expand access to treatments and care options for those living with this disease.

Kirkwood Community College offers a wide range of programs that empower students to find success in their chosen field and graduate with high-paying jobs in Iowa. I enjoyed hearing more about the start of their fall semester!

It was great to meet with Charles Schneider from Iowa AIPAC. When I visited Israel, I saw firsthand the unbreakable bond that comes from our shared values, security interests, and religious ideals. Iowans stand with Israel!
