Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin this week announced the donation of their salary to the Life Enrichment Center (LEC), a non-profit that provides literacy tutoring to students. The $43,750 donation to LEC is one of four gifts that the Governor and First Lady have pledged as part of their promise to donate the entirety of the gubernatorial annual salary to nonprofit organizations doing good work across Virginia. The two previous quarterly donations were invested in Good News Jail & Prison Ministry, a nonprofit placing Christian chaplains in jails and prisons to minister to the spiritual needs of inmates and staff, and Operation Light Shine, an integral partner in helping stand up INTERCEPT Virginia, the new task force focused on eradicating human trafficking in Virginia. This week, First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin launched her new platform, Sisterhood in L.I.F.E. Inspired by her experiences as First Lady of Virginia, Mrs. Youngkin hopes to bring the people of Virginia together in good and meaningful ways. Sisterhood in L.I.F.E. builds upon important opportunities, highlights influential work, seeks out valuable resources, discovers special places, and bridges lasting relationships for the purpose of uplifting and supporting Virginians - particularly women and girls. Sisterhood in L.I.F.E. content is guided by four principles that align with the First Lady’s faith and are essential to a vibrant existence: LOVING. INQUIRING. FLOURISHING. ENDURING. With these four tenets as her guide, the First Lady is excited to shine a light on and connect with the many incredible communities making a difference in people’s lives. Please consider joining the First Lady’s journey by following @suzanneyoungkin on Instagram and the Suzanne Youngkin Sisterhood in L.I.F.E. Facebook page and experience a more abundant L.I.F.E. together. |

We applaud the fact that Virginia has its first female Lieutenant Governor as well as the first Black female elected to statewide office. #homehistory maker Winsome Earle-Sears has paved the way for millions of Women+girls (W+g)! During Women's History Month in 2023, we unveiled Richmond artist Sukenya Best’s portrait of the Lt. Governor to be incorporated into the Art Experience at the Executive Mansion. To view the portrait in person, visit the Executive Mansion for a tour on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. |

Resources for Potential Impact of Tropical Storm Ophelia
In advance of Tropical Storm Ophelia and storm-related impacts in Virginia from Friday, September 22 through Sunday, September 24, please use the following resources and recommendations: Make a plan: Plan in advance a route to a safe place, how you will stay in contact with family and friends, and what you will do in different situations. Additional planning resources are available at https://www.vaemergency.gov/prepare/make-a-plan. Prepare an emergency kit: For a list of recommended emergency supplies to sustain your household before, during, and after the storm visit: VAemergency.gov/emergency-kit. Stay informed: Virginians should follow the Virginia Department of Emergency Management on X and Facebook for preparedness updates and their local National Weather Service office for the latest weather forecast, advisories, watches or warnings. Download the FEMA app on your smartphone to receive mobile alerts from the National Weather Service. Power outages are always a concern during weather events—make sure you have a battery-operated radio available so you can still receive life-saving alerts. For more information about preparing your business, your family, and your property against hurricane threats visit: VAemergency.gov/hurricanes and ready.gov/hurricanes. |
