Hi ACLU Supporter, It's Ben, director of the ACLU's Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project. Apologies for reaching out, but with hours to go until our midnight deadline, we're still 73 donations short of our goal. In a minute, I'm going to ask you to make a donation, but first, will you let me explain why it's so important? School censorship is sweeping the country in the form of book bans, curriculum restrictions, and laws that silence conversations about race and gender. It's a direct violation of students' First Amendment right to free speech and freedom of expression. The ACLU is uniquely prepared to fight back: We've been leading the movement against censorship since we defeated a nationwide ban on James Joyce's Ulysses in 1933. Today, we're taking school censorship policies to court in Florida, Virginia, Oklahoma, and Missouri. But to show up to each of these fights and win, we need your help. We set a goal to receive 1,330 donations before midnight tonight, and we're 73 donations short. I know we successfully defend our civil liberties – our track record proves it – but we need more funding to meet the needs of this moment.
Thanks for your support, Ben Wizner |
