Dear Friend,

When Merrick Garland was testifying in the Senate before becoming the attorney general, he said he would ensure that “the laws of our country are fairly and faithfully enforced, and that the rights of all Americans are protected."

But as we have seen, that was all lip service.

Since he became attorney general, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has become Biden’s personal police force – targeting concerned moms at school board meetings, traditional Catholics, pro-life Americans, conservatives on social media, and President Trump.

That’s why when the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing this week over the two-tiered system of Justice in America, I was looking forward to getting answers from AG Garland.

Unfortunately, he denied, deflected, and defied giving any real answers.

One topic I was really hoping we would get to the bottom of was the protection of Hunter Biden by the DOJ. Multiple whistleblowers have come forward to say that U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who is supposed to be in charge of the Hunter Biden investigation, was “not the deciding person” in charging Hunter Biden with tax crimes.

So, who was the deciding person on if Hunter Biden would be charged? Was it Merrick Garland or perhaps even Joe Biden?

Unfortunately, AG Garland said he couldn’t comment on the “ongoing” investigation. This is just one example of the DOJ intervening to obstruct justice and protect the Biden family.

Another topic I questioned AG Garland on was the unsecure southern border. Numerous sheriffs along the southern border have testified under oath to the House Judiciary Committee that the flow of deadly fentanyl increased in their communities shortly after Joe Biden became president due to his lackadaisical border policies.

I asked Merrick Garland if he agreed with these sheriffs.

To no surprise, he said the sheriffs were the ones not telling the truth and gave every single excuse for why fentanyl has increased other than the truth: Joe Biden’s open borders. You can watch that clip here.

I also asked AG Garland why his department has not responded to the letter I sent back in July calling for an investigation into a nude 10-year-old girl being allowed to participate in the World Naked Bike Ride in Madison. It’s been over two months since I sent the letter, and those who allowed a 10-year-old’s indecent exposure should be held accountable. You can read more about that exchange here.

If Congress cannot even get answers from the DOJ when their leader is under oath, it’s clear why only 17% of Americans have “a great deal” of confidence in the people running the Justice Department.

Instead of protecting the American people, the leadership in the DOJ is more interested in trying to protect the swamp. It’s up to Congress to use every tool at our disposal to reign in their weaponization.

Thanks for starting your weekend off with us. We will be back next week with another edition of the Tiffany Telegram.

Sincerely,

One week left to submit your service academy nomination
High school students in the Seventh District have only one week left to submit their application for a Service Academy Nomination from my office. Those interested in serving in our nation’s military service academies must first receive a nomination from at least one member of their state’s Congressional Delegation, the Vice President, or the President of the United States. Students seeking a Service Academy Nomination should visit my website to access the application and learn more about the nomination process. The application deadline is Friday, September 29, 2023, at 5 PM.

“Status quo” is not an option
You’ve probably been following the debate going on in Washington over government spending. Just this week, we hit a dubious milestone when the national debt crossed the $33 trillion mark. At the same time, at least 7 million illegal aliens have flooded across the border since Joe Biden was sworn in as president – a problem that’s getting worse every single day. This isn’t just dangerous and irresponsible, it’s also immoral. Time and time again, career politicians of both political parties have chosen to mortgage America’s long-term financial future for their own short-term political gain. It’s gone on for far too long, and we simply can’t afford to let it continue. That’s why I’m working with my colleagues from across the ideological spectrum on a budget framework that trims government spending and enacts tough new border security measures. We haven’t reached an agreement yet, but I am committed to a solution that ends the failed “status quo” in Washington, gets us back on the path to fiscal discipline, and shuts down the border – not the government.

Enjoyed hearing from you
Thank you to everyone who joined my telephone town hall on Wednesday with Rep. Scott Perry (PA-10). Despite Mr. Perry being a Penn State fan, we had a great time answering questions on the Biden border crisis, rising energy prices, government funding, and the Biden family’s overseas business deals. The bottom line is that the Biden family created over 20 shell companies to conceal payments of at least $20 million from foreign oligarchs, and Joe Biden was on at least 20 phone calls with Hunter Biden’s business partners as “the brand” to help close these deals. The American people deserve transparency on whether Joe Biden abused public office for his family’s financial gain, and that is why House Republicans will continue to investigate these payments through an impeachment inquiry. If you happened to miss the telephone town hall, you can listen to a recording here.

Committee Update

Tribal community speaks out in support of oil and gas
On Tuesday, our Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee had an oversight hearing to examine the Biden administration’s mismanagement of the Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Program. From attacking American energy by suspending lease sales and canceling awarded leases to locking up land and making it harder for producers to conduct business, the Biden administration has proven that they will stop at nothing to destroy our clean, domestic energy supply on our federal lands. That’s why in this hearing I asked the Bureau of Land Management, the agency responsible for a lot of these actions, about the White House War on Energy. You can watch that here. We also got to speak to a panel of industry experts and those who have been directly impacted by these misguided policies. This month, the Biden administration officially canceled the leases in Alaska, despite the project having a lot of support from the local communities. We heard testimony from Nagruk Harcharek, who was with the Voice of the Arctic Iñupiat – an organization that represents Native communities in Alaska. Members of his organization were not consulted by the Biden administration’s decision to cancel the lease, which was surprising to hear given that this administration says it cares deeply about tribal consultation. However, actions speak louder than words. You can watch my discussion with Mr. Harcharek here as he detailed the massive benefits and economic impact oil and gas development have had for Native communities in Alaska. He even said that life expectancy from 1980 to 2014 had increased by 13 years due to oil and gas production.

District Update

Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Last weekend, I had the honor of attending the Walk to End Alzheimer's in New Richmond and speaking about the importance of having immediate access to safe and effective FDA-approved treatments. I want to say a big thank you to all the volunteers and attendees who helped put on these events throughout the Seventh District and for taking charge to create a world without Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. I am committed to eliminating the government’s unnecessary barriers that individuals find themselves behind when trying to access FDA-approved treatments. It was great to see such a large turnout.

Photo of the week
This week, the northern lights were visible across northern Wisconsin, and my daughter was able to capture this amazing photo of the phenomenon in the Upper Peninsula. If you look closely, you can see the North Star. She obviously didn’t get her photography skills from me, but if you were able to capture a photo of the northern lights in Wisconsin, I’d love to see it as well. Please email it to [email protected] with your name and location.
