Over the weekend, Julie was closely following the Texas Senate vote on the fate of Attorney General Paxton. Did you see Julie's message?

Julie has been a steadfast leader in the fight to hold Paxton accountable. She often says that her vote to impeach him was one of the votes she is most proud of.

However, the Republican-controlled Texas Senate has voted to acquit Paxton. I'm sure that, just like Julie and me, you are also angered by this decision. But Julie will not waver in her mission to fight corruption.

Today Texas Senate Republicans demonstrated that bowing to political pressure is more important than upholding, ethics and integrity, and the rule of law. I am proud of the courage that the Texas house demonstrated to hold our elected officials accountable for ethical behavior and upholding their oath of office. My vote to impeach Paxton was the single greatest vote I’ve ever taken. As an early leader in the fight to hold Paxton accountable, I am deeply disappointed.

Unfortunately in the Senate, extremist republicans waged a significant political war with threats of primary challenges, loss of political funding and election interference if they failed to acquit the Attorney General. This is a sad day in our Texas history and unfortunately sends a message that corruption will be tolerated in Texas politics.

But let me be crystal clear: my commitment to combating corruption remains unshakable. Not in Texas, not in Congress, nowhere. I'm resolute in my dedication to this cause.
