John,
When I first ran for Congress in 2018 – flipping my seat blue for the first time in 50 years – I often spoke of a letter my parents wrote to my sisters and me to celebrate the year 2000, a new millennium.
In it, they wrote out lessons for their daughters. One of which has been a driving message throughout my life –
“There is no greater vocation than service to your country.”
These words have been foundational throughout my life and inform how I approach my work in Congress every single day. At CIA, I served our country by collecting intelligence to keep Americans safe. And in Congress, I do it by working for the Virginians I serve and getting things done — not grandstanding.
As one of the most bipartisan Members of Congress, I know we deliver for our community when we work together. With that philosophy in mind, I helped negotiate and pass the bipartisan infrastructure law, which is already delivering smart investments to repair our roads, fix our bridges, protect our energy grid, and expand broadband internet access.
I’ve also led the bipartisan charge to ban stock trading by Members of Congress and their spouses – removing even the perception of possible impropriety and reinforcing the standard that representatives serve the people, not their own stock portfolios.
With so many important elections just around the corner, I can’t wait to see what more we can accomplish together. To continue my work, I need your support. Will you contribute to our campaign today?

Abigail Spanberger
