On Sept. 10, in the dead of night, residents of Derna, Libya were awoken by a torrent of water flooding the streets and the screams of their neighbors as those who could climbed to rooftops for a chance of safety.
Two major dams burst, releasing more than 30 million cubic meters of water into the city and surrounding areas. So far, it is estimated that 5,000 people have died, and over 10,000 are still missing in the wreckage.
