Every year, there are four political quarters – each three months apart. At the end of each quarter, campaigns (like ours) are responsible for reporting how much money we raised to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

September 30th is the last day of fundraising before we hand those numbers over, and once we do, the FEC publishes them so that anyone can see — including Republican opponents.

We don’t want to appear vulnerable to the GOP who is already planning on investing bigtime in Michigan, so publishing a strong FEC report will either scare them off or keep them on their toes.
