John,
>> New Landing at Leidesdorff
Downtown!
Yesterday morning we celebrated the opening
of the Landing at Leidesdorff,
a new gathering place for residents, workers, and visitors at the
intersection of Commercial and Leidesdorff Streets in the heart of
Downtown. The space elevates two of the City's long-established
alleyways into a pedestrian-friendly area, providing outdoor dining
and enticing cocktails served by local restaurants, live music,
cultural events, and gorgeous new murals showcasing San Francisco's
diverse history and arts scene.
>> Welcome back
Dreamforce
Last week we welcomed back
Salesforce’s Dreamforce convention, which brought 40,000 people (and
nearly 80,000 hotel room nights) to San Francisco’s downtown to shop
in our stores, eat in our amazing restaurants, and enjoy our beautiful
city.
Dreamforce was a boon to our
downtown recovery, but there’s even more good news from businesses
that consistently support our downtown throughout the
year...
>> We are excited to partner with
Chef Tyler Florence to bring two new cafes to an even more vibrant
Union Square!
I’m proud to share that The Greater
Organization, Chef Tyler Florence's renowned restaurant group, has
been selected to revitalize two spaces within
Union Square Plaza. With
the opening of two Miller & Lux Provisions cafés, our
world-renowned Union Square will continue to thrive as a stronger and
more resilient economic and global destination.
>>
24 new businesses have opened in the Union Square
area, and visitor activity has increased by 22% from
January to July 2023 compared to the same period in
2022.
Thanks to our Roadmap to San Francisco’s
Future we’ve made remarkable progress in the past six
months alone toward revitalizing downtown. We have changed laws to fill vacant spaces,
launched Downtown activations, and prioritized cleanliness and safety
on our streets.
>> The City's new Vacant
to Vibrant program has selected 17 small-business
grantees, who will move into vacant spaces downtown. The
program is set to open later this fall.
>> Company searches for office space in San Francisco
are the highest
they have been in years, increasing by 40% from last year. Moreover, the number of tenants searching
for large blocks of space, specifically those exceeding 50,000 square
feet, has more than doubled.
>> This fall, OpenAI
will be hosting its inaugural developer
conference in San Francisco. This is no
surprise as eleven of the country's top 20 AI companies are here
– making San Francisco the AI capital of the world!
But I need your help to continue
the progress we are making together. Please
consider making a donation today to support my re-election
campaign. With your support, I can continue the 24/7 work we are doing to
encourage and support more
businesses opening and more workers coming back to a safe, clean,
welcoming downtown.
Sincerely,
Mayor London Breed
