Envisioned as a beacon of impartiality and justice, the Supreme Court has taken a hard MAGA right turn in recent years, issuing decisions in direct opposition to precedent, the Constitution, and public opinion.
And when the Court isn’t in the news for overturning abortion rights and affirmative action, individual judges are getting headlines for their own misconduct and controversy.
It’s important that we don’t get distracted from the Supreme Court’s concerted efforts to resist climate action and dismantle environmental protections.
At a time when Americans’ health, lives, and livelihoods are on the line from record heat waves, floods, pollution, and extreme wildfires, the Supreme Court has handed down major decisions restricting our ability to protect our air and water.
Right now, the Court is considering limiting the influence of federal agencies with actual scientific and policy expertise, like the EPA, in favor of giving corporate polluters even more opportunities to delay or defeat climate action.
We need a binding code of ethics and term limits to hold justices accountable for their corruption and malfeasance and prevent conflicts of interest and perjury. And we need to add at least four more seats to the bench to undo the MAGA hijacking of our nation’s highest court.
Organizations like EnviroVoters are working to restore the court’s balance and protect the planet we leave to future generations. Sign our petition to show support for reforms to make the Supreme Court more democratic, accountable, and transparent →
If we don’t act now, corporate polluters will continue to use this court to strip our rights away and eventually expand the court to benefit their own choices.
Thank you for being with us.
