Earlier this week, I joined nearly 100 of my Democratic colleagues in sending a clear message to Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy: work with us to avoid a damaging and unnecessary government shutdown.

What has McCarthy done instead? He’s given the far right idealogues in the House total control taking advantage of the impending government shutdown to push for their unpopular, hurtful agenda.

I was elected to deliver results for eastern Connecticut. We can get this done with Democrats and Republicans working together. But that is not what the out-of-touch, extreme Republicans who are controlling the House are focused on right now — and that’s bad news for our district and the country.

On the table right now are cuts to social security, healthcare, social safety nets, and essential services that will do untold harm to American families. You all deserve a government that will stand by you. And your voice matters in this.
