All last month, my team and I traveled across California to meet people
from every corner of this great state.
At every stop on this tour, I met incredible people who care deeply about
their community. I’ve listened to their stories. I’ve heard their
concerns. And in the Senate, I can’t wait to work with these folks to make
a difference for everyone.
I started by joining Rep. Nanette Barragán at her annual senior fair in
Carson. With all of the right-wing attacks on Social Security and
Medicare, we’re fighting to ensure our seniors retire with security and
dignity.

I then went to meet with the hardworking members of SEIU Local 121RN —
they represent more than 9,000 registered nurses and healthcare
professionals. Their ask is simple — fair wages, safe staffing levels, and
pandemic readiness.

Then I headed to Calexico for a Latino Leaders Roundtable with Calexico
Mayor Raul Ureña and Council Member Gilberto Manzanarez. I left feeling
inspired by the young people leading the charge in Imperial County,
fighting for our environment, immigration reform, affordable housing, and
more. I’m looking forward to teaming up with organizations like the Latino
Community Foundation in the Senate.

Eve and I then drove to Ontario for another roundtable with the Center for
Community Action and Environmental Justice to discuss environmental
justice issues in the Inland Empire. It’s critical we elevate community
voices doing the hard work of fighting for clean air, clean water, and
safe neighborhoods.

I ended the night with the Riverside County Democrats. There’s nothing
like being surrounded by so many people fired up to save our democracy and
make the economy work for everyone! Huge thanks to Riverside County
Democrats Chair Joy Silver for hosting such an incredible event.

The next morning began in the best way: Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with
our union friends. I joined members of the SEIU 721, who are working to
build an economy that works for all of us. Union strong ✊

I also met with my friends at the Democrats of Orange County. Bringing
down housing costs, making the economy work for everyone, and saving our
democracy—these are priorities we all share. We snapped a few selfies
along the way, too.

The following week I went to Santa Cruz and spent time with friends from
the Democratic Central Committee of Santa Cruz County. We talked about the
need to increase worker wages and help with the skyrocketing cost of
living across the state and nation. Former Secretary Leon Panetta, and
former Congressman Sam Farr and other supporters introduced me to their
friends and neighbors.

Then I went to Half Moon Bay, where Supervisor Ray Mueller introduced me
to Ayudando Latinos A Soñar. The program they’ve built to amplify farm
worker’s voices in California is remarkable — it’s groundbreaking and
brings hope to many working families.

After that we went to the Pacifica Pier with Supervisor Mueller and
Pacifica Mayor Bigstyck along with Mayor Pro Tem Vaterlaus and
Councilmember Beckmeyer to discuss their crumbling sea wall and climate
change’s impact.

Then over the weekend I attended SEIU’s Town Hall where we got to talk
with voters from every SEIU local across the state!

I ended the month of August at Representative Josh Harder’s annual
barbecue in Stockton to honor his volunteers! What a way to end the
weekend — by thanking some of the hardworking folks that support Democrats
up and down the ballot.

John, as you can see, there’s never a dull moment on the
road. My favorite part of being on the campaign trail is getting to meet
people and hear what’s on their minds. Listening to their challenges,
their hopes, what motivates them to get out of bed. And everywhere I go, I
ask the same question: What can I do to help.
We need leaders who are ready to roll up their sleeves and fight for
everyone.
[ [link removed] ]I’m determined to meet as many voters as possible — but in a state
like California, that’s going to take a lot of resources. Can you spare a
few bucks ahead of my September 30 FEC deadline to help keep our campaign
moving forward?
Thank you for your support, and I hope to see you on the road soon!
