Hello and Happy Friday!
Another busy week of session in Washington this week as spending fights continued. There is an ongoing fight within the Republican party as we try to get the government funded before the October 1st deadline. While the Speaker negotiates with many factions of the Republican Party, we are still focused on representing the Lowcountry.
This week the Oversight Committee held a markup on two of our bills and passed both out of committee. The Modernizing Government Technology Reform Act, which passed unanimously with both sides of the aisle, reforms a fund to be a sustainable, revolving fund dedicated to addressing costly and risky federal legacy IT. We also passed the CURE Act which would ensure that former users of cannabis are not discriminated against when trying to get jobs in the federal government. If passed into law, we will qualify tens of millions of Americans to serve.
Tuesday, we had the opportunity to speak at the Wounded Warrior Project’s Women’s Warrior Summit. Their new report on women vets represents one of the largest datasets of women veterans ever. We look forward to introducing legislation to address major areas of need for our veterans.
Earlier this week, the United States Military lost an F-35, a $75+ million stealth fighter jet. While we’ve tried to get answers from the Military, those have been few and far between. Losing a jet is unacceptable, and we will continue to use our Oversight power to make sure the DoD and other parties are held accountable.
Our office has recently started a new series called “Sunday Sunsets.” If you live in the district and want to show off your beautiful sunset picture, drop it here.
Lowcountry residents! We’re looking for more District Dog submissions! Drop the information on your pup here.
As you all may know, when we aren’t in DC, we are hosting one of our Lowcountry events such as Coffee or Cocktails With Your Congresswoman. To stay in the loop on when we hold our events, stay subscribed to our newsletter and follow our Eventbrite page!

It is an honor to serve each and every one of you.
