Hi
Friend of Trevor,
Every community member who donates to The Trevor Project helps LGBTQ students feel safe and supported in school as they start a new academic year. Their generosity is life-saving!

Here’s why: New research published this month shows that LGBTQ young people who reported that their teachers were accepting of their sexual orientation had 43% lower odds of a past-year suicide attempt, and those who said their teachers were accepting of their gender identity had 35% lower odds.

Powerful words from LGBTQ young people and their allies demonstrate how all of us — teachers and other caring adults in schools and wider communities — have the power to uplift and save young LGBTQ lives. Their dedication, hope, and joy lifted my spirits, so I wanted to share them with you.

“The Trevor Project was there. They helped me come up with a plan for how I would stay safe at school. And that was absolutely necessary for me to be able to complete my school career, for me to be able to be out and about in life and feel comfortable in my skin.”

— Logan (he/him), LGBTQ young person

“I wish the Trevor Project had been around when I was younger. I remember my 16-year-old self crying in the shower, saying ‘I’m gay’ out loud. And I think about the students I teach now and how this organization provides them a space, resources, people to listen and be there for them. So I’m thrilled that it’s here, and it makes me hopeful for the future generations of our students.”

— Harry (he/him), teacher
