John,

The National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA for short, is one of the most important laws in the United States. It gives everyone a voice in federal agency decisions that could harm public health and the environment. NEPA lets local communities organize to oppose dirty, dangerous incinerators or to stop pollution from flowing into waterways where it could poison drinking water. Many times, NEPA has helped us call on you to defend endangered species, from monarchs to marbled murrelets.

Now it's time for you to defend this crucial law. [link removed]

Trump took a sledgehammer to NEPA. His administration changed the longstanding rules for how U.S. agencies can use the law — dangerously weakening environmental reviews, removing climate change from the conversation, and stifling the public's voice while letting corporations into the decision-making process. Finally, the Biden administration has taken critical steps to restore the rules that worked well for decades. Even better, it has proposed new rules to ensure that climate change, wildlife, and environmental justice are always part of the NEPA process.

These new rules can help end disastrous fossil fuel projects on public lands that accelerate the climate crisis. They can stop dangerous, polluting mining and logging activities that are pushing so many rare species to the brink.

Just as millions of people have spoken up while using NEPA, now you can speak up to save it. Add your voice to make sure the law keeps the public in the decision-making process and stands strong for people and wildlife. [link removed]
