Here are some items you may wish to include in your three minutes of citizen input. The importance of:
* balanced, unpoliticized classrooms
* fully funded classrooms
* respecting teachers and their partnership with parents to educate their children
* balanced, fair classroom materials that address families of ALL kinds
* factually tough American history using materials that are not propaganda
* supporting the excellent leadership of Dr. Peggy Jones and denouncing those saying she is a danger to children. (She's not, at all, she has 40+ experience in our schools and has done a marvelous job.)
NEW ABORTION BILL
Last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said ([link removed]) he does not support criminalizing women who receive abortions even after he signed a six-week abortion ban into law ([link removed]) earlier this year that includes language that could be interpreted as such. DeSantis claimed, "We have no criminal penalty," adding, "The penalties are for the physician." He declined to say whether he would support a national ban.
Following DeSantis' remarks, Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book
filed ([link removed]) a bill to prevent pregnant women, girls, and sexual assault survivors from being criminally charged and imprisoned for obtaining abortion healthcare.

SECOND NEO-NAZI ARREST
The resurgence of neo-Nazi group public demonstrations is deeply alarming. These hate groups are becoming increasingly visible, and while boldly waving "DESANTIS 2024" flags at their rallies, are closely tied to the rise of Governor Ron DeSantis, known for his extremist stances on immigration, LGBTQ rights, and "Critical Race Theory." DeSantis has failed to publicly condemn the demonstrations and his refusal to loudly and forcefully denounce the Neo-Nazis that support him has created an environment where anti-semitism can flourish.
The FBI has noted the growing threat posed by racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists, with the number of domestic terror investigations related to neo-Nazi ideologies doubling since 2020, reaching a staggering 2,700 cases. Hate crimes targeting various marginalized groups, including immigrants and the LGBTQ community, are on the rise, driven in part by toxic rhetoric from influencers, right-wing media, and politicians.
Last weekend, Anthony Altick, 36, was arrested for hanging antisemitic hate banners along the Daryl Carter Bridge in Orlando over I-4. This was the second arrest made in the last two weeks relating to antisemitic messages in the same Orlando case. Jason Brown, 48, was arrested September 12 in Cape Canaveral.
As Jewish Floridians celebrate their High Holy Days, it's critical that all of our commit to denouncing all forms of anti-semitism.
