The PLO continues to promote Israel’s destruction
22 September 2023

The leaders of the 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly met this past week in New York.

As usual, Israel was isolated, and a platform was given to its enemies to spew their hatred.

The leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas, used the UN podium to accuse Israel of destabilizing the region by “feverishly” digging tunnels under the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. He claimed that the Al-Aqsa mosque and “Al-Buraq” wall (the Western Wall or Kotel) are “exclusive places of worship for Muslims alone.”

It should be recalled that the PLO is Israel’s supposed negotiations partner under the Oslo Accords that were concluded in the 1990s. The PA was established by those agreements, to achieve Palestinian self-determination and promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Abbas condemned the United States and Great Britain for the 1917 Balfour Declaration (which acknowledged the right of the Jewish people to establish their homeland in Palestine), and called for the United Nations to criminalize denial of the nakba - the Arabic word for “catastrophe” that Palestinians associate with the establishment of modern-day Israel in May 1948.

In other words, Abbas showed that the Oslo Accords were an illusion, and the Palestinian leadership continues to deny Israel’s existence and seek its destruction. So much for the peace process.

“Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the UNGA now was another inflammatory display in abhorrent antisemitism, unhinged lies and glorification of terror, underscoring his utter irrelevance,” wrote Arsen Ostrovsky, CEO of the International Legal Forum. “On a bright note, at least he didn’t engage in Holocaust denial—again.”

In a side meeting with UN Secretary-General Guterres, Israel’s Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu stressed Iran’s role in destabilizing the Middle East and the world. He said that he hopes normalization efforts with Saudi Arabia will succeed and predicted that the economic corridor from India to Europe, which passes through Israel, will “contribute to strengthening the global economy.” Netanyahu asked Guterres to “change” the hostile attitude of the organization’s institutions towards the State of Israel. “The time has come for the U.N. to condemn Iranian subversion and Palestinian terrorism against innocent civilians, and to refrain from its baseless criticism of Israel,” he said.

Palestinians: Israeli Concessions Are a Sign of Weakness

Bassam Tawil writes at Gatestone: “On the 18th anniversary of Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the Iran-backed Palestinian terror groups are still talking about the need to step up attacks against Israel until the "liberation of all of Palestine," from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.”

A Greeting | The Book of RUTH with Johannes Gerloff #24

Today we not infrequently greet thoughtlessly, asking far-reaching questions without seriously expecting an answer. In Scripture, greetings have a far-reaching meaning, especially when they are handed down verbatim.

SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK:

Psalm 2:1-7

Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
I will proclaim the Lord’s decree
