WG Economy: Could A Shutdown Trigger A
Perfect Storm For The Economy?
WG Economy | David Winston
September 20, 2023
Last week's inflation report showed a year-over-year CPI going in the wrong direction, up to 3.7%. This is the second consecutive report showing an uptick in inflation, complicating the White House Bidenomics narrative that inflation is coming down. Our latest Presidential Inflation Rate shows a cumulative rate of 17.4%, meaning prices have gone up over 17% since President Biden took office. This uptick was driven by gas prices, with gas having gone up 62.5% since the beginning of his term. WG Economy, September 20, 2023.pdf

Letter from Republican senators slams change
in dress code enforcement
Washinton Post | Marisa Iati
September 19, 2023
All but three Republican senators published a letter to Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday, blasting his decision to stop enforcing the requirement of business attire on the Senate floor as disrespectful.
The policy change means the nation's 100 senators have free rein to choose how they dress while they conduct some of the nation's most important business. The Senate previously followed an unwritten and unevenly enforced policy that encouraged men to wear suits and ties and women to cover their arms.
The 46 Republican senators who objected to stopping enforcement of this rule argued that a dress code upholds the sanctity of the institution. They implored Schumer to reverse his decision. Read more

Inside the Next Republican Revolution
Whether Trump wins or not, the GOP plans a renewed assault on his nemesis, the "deep state." Can conservatives train enough
loyalists to actually get the job done?
Politico Magazine | Michael Hirsh

Paul Dans points to a massive book prominently displayed on a table in his Capitol Hill office - written, Dans says, "in the sweaty summer of 1980." Yellowing and torn at the edges, it is a 1,091-page manifesto of conservative governance titled A Mandate for Leadership. "That book really became the bible of the Reagan Revolution. That's kind of what we're working from," says Dans, a tall, MIT-educated lawyer who is leading a team of former Trump officials preparing a new "America First" agenda for the next Republican president - whether it's former President Donald Trump or not. Longshot Republican presidential candidates scramble to make 2nd debate next week
Fox Business and Univision are hosting the 2nd Republican
presidential nomination debate at the Ronald Reagan
Presidential Library on September 27
Fox News | Paul Steinhauser
September 19, 2023
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgam vows that his Republican White House campaign will not be sidetracked if he falls short in his bid to qualify for next week's second GOP presidential nomination debate.
" We're going to keep charging forward," Burgum told Fox News Digital.
However, Burgum's campaign and an allied super PAC are making major investments this week in trying to boost the national ID of a politician who is far from a household name outside his native North Dakota in an attempt to make the stage.
Burgum has just under a week to qualify for the second debate, a FOX Business and Univision hosted showdown Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. Read more

Government Is Hiring This Year and
Boosting Pay: 'We're Booming'
As many companies slow hiring, the public sector is adding workers
The Wall Street Journal | Te-Ping Chen
September 18, 2023
While many companies have been cutting staff and freezing new hires this year, the government is laying out the welcome mat.
Public-sector jobs at the federal, state, and local level have risen by 327,000 positions so far in 2023, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That is approaching one-fifth of all new American jobs created in the first eight months of the year. In contrast, public-sector jobs accounted for 5% of employment growth during the equivalent period last year.
"After two years of very underwhelming government hiring, it's a necessary catch-up," said Julia Pollak, an economist at online jobs site ZipRecruiter. Read more

North Carolina Republicans seek control over state and local election boards ahead of 2024
Associated Press | Gary D. Robertson
September 18, 2023
Republicans who control the North Carolina legislature with veto-proof majorities are close to wresting supervision of elections from the governor and the governor's party - almost always the Democrats for over a century.
A bill that could reach Gov. Roy Cooper's desk this week would, among other changes, take away from him and future governors the power to appoint members of the State Board of Elections. It would give that authority to legislative leaders instead.
The legislation also could lead to the ouster of the top elections administrator ahead of the next presidential election in a state where former President Donald Trump squeezed out a razor-thin win over Democrat Joe Biden in 2020. North Carolina was Trump's narrowest victory that year, raising hopes among Democrats that Biden could win there in 2024. Read more

Trump expected to skip 2nd Republican debate,
plans speech to workers in Detroit
The primary front-runner has suggested
he sees no reason to go on stage
ABC News | Lalee Ibssa, Soo Rin Kim, & Fritz Farrow
September 18, 2023
Former President Donald Trump is expected to skip the second Republican primary debate, in California on Sept. 27, and will instead visit Detroit to deliver a speech in front of union workers amid a major auto strike, according to a senior adviser.
The move -- which will likely draw criticism from some of his primary challengers, just as it did when he opted out of the first debate -- comes as a work stoppage unfolds against the three largest motor vehicle manufacturers in the U.S. and offers Trump an opportunity to deliver a message to a key voting bloc in a pivotal battleground state, Michigan. (President Joe Biden has likewise emphasized his pro-union bona fides.) Read more

Republicans squeeze Democrats on labor as
UAW strike explodes in Michigan
The GOP under Donald Trump has moved away
from automatically backing big business and made modest
gains among blue-collar workers.
Politico | Myah Ward & Ally Mutnick
September 17, 2023
Republicans are testing whether they can widen the Democratic Party rift exposed by the United Auto Workers strike as they try to reclaim the Senate and the White House.
The GOP sees the UAW walkout as a potential lifeline in Michigan, where politically weakened Republicans are now plotting how best to seize on a tension point between Democrats' clean-energy agenda and their pro-labor roots. President Joe Biden is pressing for more electric vehicles to achieve his climate goals, but workers who produce parts like batteries for those cars are often non-union and make less money. Read more

What Hunter Biden charges mean for the president
BBC News | Gary O'Donoghue
September 15, 2023
Politically speaking, there are currently two Americas.
One is outraged and horrified that the former president, Donald Trump, is facing 91 federal and state criminal charges in what they see as a deep state conspiracy orchestrated in part by Joe Biden's Department of Justice.
.The other believes that very same justice department has spent five years unfairly pursuing Mr. Biden's son, Huner, over his tax affairs and behavior while a self-declared and repentant drug addict.
In other words, both Americas believe the department responsible for enforcing the laws of the land has been taken captive by the other side and is hopelessly politicised. Read more

Conservatives praise McCarthy for grilling reporter until she 'admits' GOP has evidence of Biden wrongdoing
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave the go-ahead for an impeachment inquiry for President Biden earlier this week
Fox News | Andrew Mark Miller
September 15, 2023
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy set social media ablaze on Thursday after he pushed back against a reporter's assertion that he launched an impeachment "without evidence."
"AP reported that McCarthy's impeachment inquiry was launched 'without evidence,'" GOP operative Arthur Schwartz posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday. "Here's McCarthy forcing an AP reporter to admit that there was lots of evidence to support an impeachment inquiry."
In the clip, AP reporter Farnoush Amiri asked McCarthy about fellow Republicans who have said that the investigation into President Biden has yet to show an impeachable offense at this point. Read more

Democrats have pathways to replace Biden in 2024,

New candidate may emerge in race
Fox News | Remy Numa

Calls are growing for Democrats to find an alternative to President Biden before the next election. With the first primary contests a few months away, is it too late for them to find a viable replacement?
The short answer is no, but time is running out.
Biden would either need to face a serious primary challenge now or decide to step down later. Either method would make history in the modern era. Read more

WG Discussion Points: New Numbers On Bidenomics & Accomplishments Messaging
WG Discussion Points | David Winston

The President spent August on the road promoting his Bidenomics agenda with a victory lap about the inflation rate coming down. The inflation picture seems to have turned on its head in the past month with the last two consecutive reports showing moves in the wrong direction. This week's report showed year over inflation back up to 3.7% and this was driven mostly by an uptick in gas prices. Our latest Presidential Inflation Rate shows the cumulative rate of inflation over 17% (17.4%) since President Biden took office, and gas prices up 62.5% since the beginning of 2021.
