Tell President Biden: We Need Stronger Protections!
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) has been a cornerstone of our nation’s environmental protections for more than 50 years. The law requires the federal government to assess the environmental impacts of proposed projects prior to their approval — and allows communities to have a voice in projects that will directly affect them. This is especially important for historically marginalized communities that are heavily impacted by pollution but often weren’t consulted or prioritized.
The Trump administration tried to gut this bedrock environmental law. Now we need your help to urge Biden to restore NEPA’s protections and modernize NEPA to better incorporate considerations for environmental justice, community engagement, and climate change.

Friend —
During the Trump administration, extreme MAGA Republicans attempted to gut decades of environmental safeguards set forth in the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA, which has been critical to protecting communities from pollution and dangerous development projects for more than 50 years.
Now, the Biden administration is proposing new standards to correct the remaining damage of the Trump administration’s attempts to weaken NEPA and further improve the law to ensure reviews are done as equitably as possible. The proposed standards better incorporate climate change and environmental justice considerations into NEPA reviews and improve overall community engagement.
This fight is important. Without strong climate and environmental justice considerations, we run the risk of destroying public lands, fragmenting critical ecosystems, and further polluting the air we breathe and the water we drink, creating irreversible damage in the interest of corporate greed.
That’s why we’re asking for your help:
Please, take a moment before next week’s deadline to tell the Biden-Harris administration that you support their efforts to strengthen NEPA. Add your name now >>
Here’s why strengthening NEPA is such a big deal, Friend:
- It means requiring environmental impact studies that consider and address climate pollution and environmental justice before federal projects can be approved.
- It means giving people a fair and equitable say in what happens in their communities, engaging them for feedback early in the process.
- It means protecting our air and water and the lives of countless threatened and endangered species on public lands.
