Evangelical Leaders Respond to Judicial Ruling Against DACA, Implore Congress to Act Quickly - U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy is unlawful on September 14. Judge Hanen’s order moves the country one step closer to DACA being struck down entirely. In a letter to lawmakers, prominent evangelical denominations, ministries and organizations explain that the eventual termination of DACA presents “a foreseeable crisis on the near horizon,” when an estimated 600,000 current DACA beneficiaries could lose their work authorization, with ripple effects for their families, churches and the economy. The letter notes that 80% of evangelical voters in a recent poll said they want Republicans and Democrats to work together on a series of immigration reforms that would include creating a pathway to citizenship for immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, along with improvements to border security and reforms to ensure a legal, reliable agricultural workforce.

House Budget Committee Advances Rep. Arrington's Budget Resolution - The House Budget Committee passed the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for FY2024-FY2033, which would reduce the deficit by $16 trillion and balance the federal budget in 10 years. The budget resolution was passed out of Committee by a vote of 20-14. Upon passage of the resolution, Chairman Jodey Arrington said: “Today, the House took the first step in ‘reversing the curse’ and restoring America’s fiscal sanity by passing our resolution to balance the budget in 10 years...If we demonstrate the sense of urgency, persistence, and political courage, we will preserve America’s leadership in the world and secure the blessings of liberty for our children."

Protecting Your Freedom to Drive a Gas-Powered Car - Last year, California enacted new requirements on automakers effectively banning the sale of new gas-powered cars and light trucks by 2035 and limiting consumer choice in new vehicles to electric vehicles. The House voted in a bipartisan fashion to reject California’s failed and expensive green energy mandates from spreading to the rest of the nation, invest in liquid fuels to restore American energy independence, make gas affordable again, and secure our energy future. The Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act prevents the EPA from imposing new regulations that would ban sales of new motor vehicles with gas-powered internal combustion engines.
