John,
Big Pharma has long wielded its immense power to manipulate the system, placing profits above patients' well-being. Their aggressive campaign against the Inflation Reduction Act, especially the clause allowing Medicare to negotiate more affordable prescription drugs, showcases their blatant disregard for public welfare.
Although the American people celebrated a win when this lobbying was thwarted, we must recognize that the struggle is far from over.
Even as the Biden administration targets the first ten drugs for price reduction, Big Pharma fires back with lawsuits and further lobbying, striving to dilute these negotiations.
Medications are the lifelines for countless individuals, crucial for treating ailments, alleviating suffering, and saving lives. Yet, for many, these lifelines remain infuriatingly out of reach due to the exorbitant prices set by Big Pharma. It's time we demand change.
As the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) seeks public feedback on the consequences of sky-high drug prices, we must seize this moment. Tell CMS: no half measures. Negotiate the lowest possible prices for medications, and do it now.
It's a grim paradox that the United States, one of the wealthiest nations globally, also holds the record for the highest prescription drug prices. A provision from the George W. Bush era has rendered Medicare a hapless victim to Big Pharma's whims, compelling it to accept prices without any room for negotiation.
This provision not only shackles Medicare but also denies countless Americans their fundamental right to accessible healthcare. Other insurance providers do not face such a constraint, so why should Medicare?
Remember, it was the collective clamor of the public that once took on and beat Big Pharma's lobbying against the Inflation Reduction Act. It can happen again.
Let's not settle for any concessions. Every day that we delay means another day of unnecessary suffering for thousands who can't afford their medications. It translates to families torn apart by financial burdens, dreams shattered due to unaffordable treatments, and lives prematurely ended.
Tell CMS no half measures. Negotiate the lowest possible price for medications now.
Thank you for taking action, your voice can, and will, make a difference.
