New Population Counts for Nearly 1,500 Race and Ethnicity Groups
Today's release of new 2020 Census data provides population counts of nearly 1,500 race and ethnicity groups and American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) tribes and villages.
More than 350 million detailed responses to the race and ethnicity questions were collected in the 2020 Census — six times more than in the 2010 Census due to improvements to the race and Hispanic or Latino origin (referred to as Hispanic origin) questions design, data processing and coding procedures.
Asian Indian Was The Largest Asian Alone Population Group in 2020
The Asian Indian alone population became the nation’s largest Asian alone population group in 2020, growing by over 50% to 4,397,737 between 2010 and 2020.
The nation’s most populous Asian alone or in any combination group in 2020 was the Chinese, except Taiwanese population with 5.2 million, an increase of 37.2% since 2010.
Detailed Look at Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander Groups
Newly released results from the 2020 Census Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File A show that the populations of nearly all the 31 detailed Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (NHPI) groups grew over the past decade.
The Chuukese alone population was the fastest growing NHPI alone group, increasing 296.2% to 10,500 people from 2010 to 2020, according to the 2020 Census data released today.
3.5 Million Reported Middle Eastern and North African Descent in 2020
Lebanese, Iranian and Egyptian populations represented nearly half of the 3.5 million who reported Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) descent in the 2020 Census — the first census to specifically solicit MENA responses.
