Captain Lawson is getting ready to start his first record-breaking journey, but he can't set sail without your help! Chip in by February 29 (that's tomorrow!) to support his historic voyage »

This is exciting, friend.

Earlier this month we introduced you to Captain Donald Lawson — a longtime LCV member and a Baltimore native with a big dream. He is determined to become the first African American man to sail solo nonstop around the globe and set 12 world records along the way.

What's more: Captain Lawson's sailboat will be powered entirely by clean energy — using solar, hydropower, and wind. Using clean energy not only allows Captain Lawson to race 15-25% faster than the average sailor, but aligns with his own environmental values and priorities.

Because of his commitment to using clean energy, Captain Lawson doesn't have big corporate and fossil fuel funders. That's why he's building a grassroots support network of members like you through his educational partner organization, Independent Arts and Media. Captain Lawson wants to show the world that Clean Energy for All is the right way to win, but he can't do it alone. He needs resources to make his dream a reality. Can you become a member of his crew today?

The clock is ticking to make an impact. Help Captain Lawson get his clean energy-powered sailboat in the water — any amount helps!

Captain Lawson is undertaking this journey to set an example for the next generation of sailors and clean energy leaders of color. That's why he will be hosting community events and educational opportunities around the world for young people of color to learn about the maritime industry and gain access to resources to join it. Opening up the world of sailing to his community is a top priority of this journey, and he cannot wait to leave a lasting legacy in Baltimore and around the world.

The educational opportunities don't stop there. Captain Lawson and one of his partners, Independent Arts and Media, will create films to document his experience. The first one, Dark Seas: The Legacy of African American Solo Sailors, will look into the stories of sailors from the past, the history and rules of record breaking, and finally Captain Lawson's program and goals.

Your donation will go to support the making of the Dark Seas documentary — take advantage of this exclusive opportunity to help a fellow LCV member make history »

Thank you for supporting LCV member Captain Lawson — when we come together as a community, we can show the world what it looks like to invest in and grow our diverse, clean energy economy.
