FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Family Reunification Day Celebration on September 25th?
?
On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the Skagit Board of County Commissioners signed a proclamation designating September 2023 as Family Reunification Month in Skagit County. The proclamation highlights the hard work by parents involved in the dependency process to be reunified with their children.??
The Skagit County Superior Court would like to invite you to celebrate Family Reunification Day on Monday, September 25th, 2023, from 4:00 ? 6:00 p.m. at the Skagit Valley Playfields at 2700 Martin Road, Mount Vernon WA. The family-friendly event will provide food, offer children?s games and activities, and recognize the families in attendance. Community partners will also host informational tables and family activities.
Judge Laura Riquelme, presiding judge for Family Recovery Court, stated, ?This is our third Family Reunification Day event to recognize and celebrate families who have successfully reunified after involvement in the dependency system.?These families faced seemingly insurmountable challenges when their cases began. Our community partners and support networks helped families along the way, but it is ultimately the parents? efforts to remedy those issues and nurture the bonds with their children that led to reunification.??
In 2018, Washington state launched a statewide celebration of Family Reunification Month to encourage communities to celebrate the hard work and importance of families healing and coming back together.
