Dear John,
PAWS Chicago Medical Center was built to help and heal pets with nowhere else to go. And a big part of that is special operations.
Equipped to perform everything from eye and ear surgeries to dental procedures and knee joint repairs, our medical team can do what others cannot—relieve chronic pain and often restore an animal’s ability to see, hear, eat, walk.
For Margot’s painful, swollen-shut ears, our surgical capabilities were her only hope for a happy life. A severe ear infection had travelled to the deepest recesses of her ear canals, causing permanent deafness, and medication proved to be useless. Margot needed complicated surgery to remove the infected tissue woven between her tiny, sensitive blood vessels and nerves.
Read about how surgeons Dr. Jennifer Nevis and Dr. Paula West performed this intricate operation that stopped Margot’s pain for good and marked the beginning of her new life.

Bamby Finds His Family
A year and a half old, Bamby was surrendered to Animal Care and Control along with two brothers and a sister. Small and tan with big, black eyes, he resembled a frightened fawn. But he wouldn’t be without a mom for long.

Crosstown Classic Makes PAWS Pets the Winners
PAWS Chicago and the Chicago Cubs hosted Adoption Day at Gallagher Way on Aug. 16, the day of the final 2023 Crosstown Classic game versus the rival White Sox. Six PAWS dogs were featured at the event, which was covered by local media, including NBC5, Telemundo and WGN. Emma and Kyle Hendricks, and Lindsay Hawkins (wife of Cubs General Manager Carter Hawkins) hosted PAWS at Gallagher Way, the park just outside Wrigley Field.
On a beautifully sunny day, our pups strutted their stuff and gave potential adopters their best puppy-dog-eyes. And for four of them, it worked like a charm. During the three-hour event, dogs Swanson, Hendricks, Hawkins, and Gallagher found new homes. And we would like to think the pups brought good luck to the Cubs, who won that night’s game on a walk-off homerun.

Volunteer of the Month: Vanessa Cruz
When Vanessa Cruz joined our Medical Center volunteer team seven months ago, it fulfilled a lifelong ambition to love and care for pets. She didn't expect it to deepen her bond with family. See what Vanessa Cruz has discovered over the last seven months of volunteering at our Medical Center.
“It’s beautiful when a shy dog slowly warms up to you.”

Pet of the Month: Adopt Franklin
To be frank, Franklin is simply the best. He's a playful, happy-go-lucky chap who loves to run and play—especially in a yard with his family. This 3-year-old also loves to relax in a calm environment after play time and get lots of belly rubs and cuddles.
This good boy would love to find a family with a fully fenced yard; a very low-traffic neighborhood or suburb would be perfect for him. He does great with other dogs and people of all ages, but no cats.
Is Franklin the dog for you? Find out!
