Friend --

Crumbling ceilings. Classes of 30+ students. Charter schools that siphon millions of dollars away from our public schools. These are just a few things Oakland teachers and students are up against. They won significant gains this May with their historic strike, and we had their backs. But school privatizers are entrenching their power by preventing a labor-backed majority on the Oakland School Board, and they’ve already got a charter-backed candidate lined up. We’ve got to stand with teachers and students by taking back the School Board, and that starts with electing Sasha Ritzie-Hernandez this November. Pitch in to help East Bay DSA elect Sasha now! <[link removed]>

Who is Sasha? If you haven’t met her at a picket line or canvass yet, you should know she’s an organizer first. She stood on the line with Oakland teachers this May and recruited other families to support the strike. She’s got the endorsement of East Bay DSA and Oakland Education Association. Most importantly, she’s been through Oakland’s public school system as an Afro-Latina immigrant, so she knows first-hand what it’s like to be a bilingual student navigating a system that throws up roadblocks for working families. That’s why she’s running on a platform that includes:

- Paying educators fairly, so teachers can afford to stay in Oakland

- No school closures and no new charter schools, so schools serve working families, not the billionaires

- Engaging with school communities, so parents can have a real impact on their children’s schools

- Safe schools, so schools serve students of color and working-class students, rather than trying to solve safety issues with more police

Friend, Sasha is from a working-class family, and she’s lived in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood for years. She knows that if Oakland teachers are facing impossible conditions at work, they're going to leave our schools, so she’s ready to fight like hell to improve their working conditions. But Sasha has faced harsh criticism for having had the audacity to support the OEA strike. The monied forces arrayed against her are ready to fight tooth and nail to prevent her election. They’re right to be scared, because Sasha’s win would create a labor-supported majority on the Oakland board.

But you know all of us in East Bay DSA have her back!

Contribute today to helpus elect Sasha and create a labor-backed majority on the Oakland School Board. <[link removed]>

An endorsement from us doesn’t just mean an op-ed somewhere. We’re knocking on doors, making calls, and talking daily with her campaign. Because if you’ve ever worked on one of our electoral campaigns, you know we’re in it to win it.

But those efforts come with hard costs. For us to keep doing this work, to pay for textbanks, phonebanks, canvass materials, and more, we need your support.

Chip in now to help us pull off a campaign in support of Sasha >> <[link removed]>

Thank you for everything that you do. Now let's go elect Sasha!

In solidarity,

Quinn Costello
