Gerrymandering Through Independent Redistricting 
Rampant political and racial gerrymandering threatens the health
of our democracy, but fully-empowered independent redistricting
commissions are the cure. In 2008, California Common Cause led a
coalition that ended gerrymandering in California, and they’ve
been spearheading successful pro-voter initiatives ever since.
We’ll discuss how we can work state-by-state to end
gerrymandering across the country.

Finance Reform
Too often, candidates for local office are bought and paid for by
outside special interest groups and wealthy donors. Democracy
Vouchers create a campaign finance system where every voter has a
voice - and a voucher that they can give to the political
candidate of their choice. Join us for a discussion on how we
organize for an open and equitable campaign finance system.

* 1:30-3 p.m. PST: Women of Color Leading Democracy: Occupying All
Spaces At All Times
Women of color are the frontline defenders of democracy across the
United States. As they work to empower their communities, they face
disproportionate threats from those who hold entrenched power.
We’ll share what we learned from Democracy Rising’s recent WOC
Democracy Transformation Summit and discuss how WOC experience the
democracy spaces in which they work, how to build solidarity with
one another, identify allies, and how to navigate misogyny and
racism.

Rights in Suppression Hot Spots
Across the nation, state legislatures are using their states as
voter suppression testing labs, passing escalating attacks on
voters' rights. In this panel hear from leaders working in the
belly of the beast, leading organizations that are fighting for the
democracies their states deserve. From legal challenges, to
lobbying to grassroots mobilization and voter turnout, these
organizations are demonstrating that democracy is a verb.
