This bill is not merely a piece of legislation — it's a beacon of hope for Black women and girls across the country.

Friends -

This past spring, my home state of Minnesota became the first to create a dedicated office for missing and murdered Black women, a trailblazing move that has since been replicated by states across the country.

For too long, Black women and girls have been disproportionately affected by an epidemic of violence, and it's long past time that we address this nationwide crisis at the federal level.

That's why earlier this week, I was proud to introduce the Brittany Clardy Missing And Murdered Black Women And Girls Act in Congress — a critical piece of legislation which would establish a dedicated office within the Department of Justice and reaffirm our movement's commitment to valuing and protecting Black lives.

It's so important that our progressive movement stand together on this issue, which is why I'm asking you today: Can you add your voice to mine and say you support the Brittany Clardy Missing And Murdered Black Women And Girls Act today?

Black women and girls in the United States are facing a violent crisis of unprecedented proportions, and yet remain overlooked, forgotten, and dismissed when it comes to discussions around violent crime.

The statistics here do not lie, and emphasize the incredible urgency of this legislation.

Last year, despite representing 7% of the population, a shocking 40% of missing women and girls in America were Black — 97,924 mothers, daughters, aunts, sisters, friends, and neighbors.

However, due to underreporting, mishandled investigations, and a lack of coordination among law enforcement agencies across state lines, so many of their stories remain untold, and so many of their cases remain unresolved.

This new office within the DoJ created by this bill will be responsible for conducting research, working with agencies at state, local, and tribal levels, and making policy recommendations to Congress that can help find concrete, real-world solutions to this ever-growing problem.

The truth is that a nationwide crisis of this scale and importance demands bold, urgent action. Which is why this bill is not merely a simple piece of legislation — it represents a beacon of hope for countless Black women, girls, and families across the country.

As the mother of two beautiful Black girls, I am incredibly proud to lead this effort at the federal level, but I know that I cannot do it alone. So please:

Add your name to say you support the Brittany Clardy Missing And Murdered Black Women And Girls Act today. I would not ask if your support on this issue was not so incredibly important.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for signing on to our petition today.

In solidarity,

Ilhan
