John,
The roots of our nation’s democracy aren’t in the halls of Congress, but rather in friends, neighbors, and complete strangers working together to improve communities across the country. Today, AmeriCorps, one of the organizations leading the charge, is celebrating 30 years of service!
Today means a lot to me because I launched one of AmeriCorps' first programs, leading 150 members in 15 cities who tutored students. I know firsthand the tremendous benefits this program has on people from all walks of life.
At the National "I Have a Dream" Foundation, I worked with AmeriCorps members to provide after-school programs in tough neighborhoods where too few students were able to reach their full potential. These experiences changed my life, and I began to see how our sense of common purpose and values bind us together as Americans.
The call to serve is ongoing, John, and I firmly believe all of us can make a positive change in the lives of our fellow Americans. As Co-Chair of the National Service Caucus, I’m delighted to celebrate AmeriCorps, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to strengthen AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Seniors, and other national service programs.
Your support is crucial in helping me continue to advocate for programs like AmeriCorps and work towards a better America. If you'd like to contribute to our ongoing efforts, please consider making a donation of $5 or whatever you can afford to my campaign >> [link removed]
