Dear friend,
Climate change is a devastating force leading to a
hotter, hungrier, more vulnerable world. When farmers suffer from drought,
communities face devastating floods year after year, entrepreneurs lack
sustainable electricity to power their business — cycles of hunger,
poverty, and displacement become more widespread and acute.
That’s where Mercy Corps comes in: we’re working with communities facing
the effects of the climate crisis now. We’re working at the forefront of
climate innovation to find sustainable solutions to the challenges we’re
facing.
Today, I invite you to help accelerate these solutions by making a gift to
Mercy Corps that can help us go 5X as far — for communities facing the
effects of climate change and conflict.
For the past five years, Mercy Corps has been able to raise an average of
$4 in public grants compared to every $1 in individual gifts. So when your
gift is combined with our average annual grants, together we can have up
to 5X the impact. [ [link removed] ]Can we count on you to make a gift today?

Farmers in DRC have learned how to stabilize the topsoil, improve soil
fertility, and increase the amount of farmable land.
The fertile valleys of South Kivu in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
are controlled by large commercial growing operations, leaving local
farmers with less productive areas of land that are more vulnerable to
climate change. On the steep slopes of the mountains, heavy rains have
consistently washed away crops and, during the dry season, the area is
prone to wildfires. Mercy Corps is working with farmers to develop
climate-resilient strategies to crop production.
Chantal and her husband have farmed their land for 20 years, growing
beans, maize, and cassava. But extreme weather often left them without
enough to feed their family.
Chantal began working with Mercy Corps four years ago where she learned
farming techniques like how to dig channels to drain water during the
rainy season, and use that water to irrigate the crops in dry times. Since
then, her cassava production has increased threefold and her family can
now eat three meals a day.

Chantal harvests cassava grown with farming techniques that she learned in
a Mercy Corps program. She says her crop production has improved, allowing
her to better support her family.

Climate change is one of the
greatest threats of our time. Communities that contribute the least to
global warming are those that are facing the most acute impacts. But
together, we can address this injustice and help people cope, adapt, and
thrive.
[ [link removed] ]With communities around the world working to build resilience, will
you make a gift today? Every $1 you give will join $4 in public grants to
help us go 5X as far, to support people who are grappling with the effects
of climate change and conflict.
Thank you for your commitment to building a more just and equitable world.
With gratitude,
The Mercy Corps team
